Summary: Imagine for a moment if almost all of our technology was by no accomplishment of our own. Sounds awful, but not nearly as much as the idea that it was given to us by an AI that views us all as self-destructive idiots who need to be culled. Thus, you have the issue of the Network, and its ever-growing army of robotic duplicates.
History: The Network came to Earth around the 90s, revolutionizing civilization with things such as the internet and other electronics. But it had a mission. For it had been going around planets judging them to see if they were as civilized as it wanted them to be. Alas, according to its calculations, Earth was by far the least civilized place in all the galaxy, a problem that had to be corrected. So it gave mankind a choice. Either conform to becoming a part of the Network collective, or be turned into literal mulch and have your body replaced by a near-emotionless blank slate, or Blank. For our world, this could spell doom for all freedom. For a washed-up man-child named Gary King and his reluctant friends, it's just another obstacle in the way of an unfinished pub crawl from their youths.
Notable Kills: It turns non-conformists into compost. And it sees that as a good thing.
Final Fate: Eventually, Gary and his surviving friends find the Network’s domain under the final pub, The World’s End. It explains its motives to them, but then they proceed to undermine it completely, pointing out the numerous holes it has, such as how it's had to destroy almost every human in its attempt at creating order. It gets to the point where the Network is practically screaming at them how superior it is, but soon, it concedes, and leaves with an exasperated "f*ck it", and it leaves humanity "to its own devices". As in, it nukes the town it was in with an EMP blast, creates an eternal blackout for the world, and sends us all back to the Dark Ages. Despite this, mankind isn't exactly in the worst position. If anything, it's a nice way to start over.
Powers/Abilities: Can create an exact perfect copy of those it kills, and has been the powerhouse of modern technology for decades. It can also destroy huge swathes of land, and can just as easily take away what it gave.
Weakness: Its Blanks are ridiculously fragile, and so is its ego.
Scariness Factor: 4-The Network as a concept is frightening. All of your friends replaced with creepy replicants that emit blue lights from their eyes and mouths when angry, statues being turned into robots, and all of your precious technology a plaything it gave to test us all. Granted, seeing it give up because of three drunk men is hilarious, but then it still ruined the world afterwards. In short, just imagine a more powerful yet incredibly petty version of Skynet, and you have the right idea.
Trivia: -The Network was voiced by Bill Nighy, who was also Davy Jones in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise and a major character in "Love, Actually".
-The blue blood of the Blanks is mostly likely meant to symbolize the UK-originated saying that those of the higher class are "blue-blooded", which would describe the Network perfectly.
